Fort McMurray, Alberta

Wood Buffalo RCMP and Bylaw Services would like to remind residents that on June 13th the much anticipated Northern Kick Off will be held at Shell Place and there are traffic flow changes that will be in effect throughout the day.

Beginning at 1:00 PM until midnight on the day of the Northern Kick Off, there will be no traffic access onto MacDonald Island. During this time, RCMP and Bylaw Services will be stationed at the entrance of MacDonald Island, on the corner of Franklin Avenue and MacDonald Drive, directing traffic to alternate routes. People who plan on attending the event are encouraged to use the Park & Ride program which is being offered by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and is free of charge to ticket holders and volunteers. Pick up and drop off routes can be viewed at www.northernkickoff.ca . For those who do not wish to take advantage of the free Park & Ride option, taxis will be granted limited access to MacDonald Island for pick up and drop off.

Wood Buffalo RCMP and Bylaw Services Officers will be working together to ensure public safety throughout the event. RCMP members will be in the area enforcing traffic infractions such as impaired driving and speeding. Parking will be limited in the downtown core and Bylaw Services will be monitoring this to ensure regulations are being adhered to.

Please remember to make your plans ahead of time and enjoy the Northern Kick Off !
