Sudden Death at the Water Treatment Plant

On September 26, 2012, shortly before 8:00 am, Wood Buffalo RCMP were dispatched to the water treatment facility onSilin Forest Rd, near Highway 63, to assistEMS. The facility is currently under construction and emergency medical services had been called after a previously missing worker was discovered submerged under the water inside one of the buildings. The victim, a 32 year-old male fromSherwood Park,Alberta, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Although foul play is not suspected at this time, the police investigation continues, as does the Occupational Health and Safety investigation. The exact cause of death is not known at this time, however given the circumstances, drowning is suspected in this very unfortunate incident. “I was extremely saddened to learn of this tragic event,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “On behalf of the municipality, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to family and friends who have been affected. During this difficult time, our community mourns with you.”
