Wood Buffalo RCMP charge man with assault on police officer

Fort MacKay, Alberta – On June 15, 2017 Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a call of an intoxicated male at the Athabasca Lodge who refused to leave the facility when requested. Police arrived on scene and arrested the male but he was able to avoid being handcuffed.

The male then threatened to harm the officer and a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed. The male suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result and was taken into custody without further incident. He was treated at hospital and released to police custody.

Scott Thomas Lake**, a 37-year-old from Newfoundland has been charged with:

  • Assault of a police officer
  • Obstruction of a police officer
  • Uttering Threats
  • Mischief under $5000.00

A judicial hearing was held and Lake was released on a recognizance with court imposed conditions. He is scheduled to appear on June 21, 2017 in Fort McMurray Provincial Court.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be made available.
