Fort McMurray, Alta – On Nov. 22, 2018, the Wood Buffalo RCMP General Duty, Municipal Traffic and Community Policing Units joined by Safe Community Wood Buffalo conducted a car seat check stop to ensure the installation of car seat was compliant with the safety regulations.
A total of 50 vehicles with car seats installed were checked. As a result, many of the vehicles had car seats installed incorrectly. The non-compliance decreased from 87% in 2017 to 66%.
• 8 vehicles passed with no issues
• 8 vehicles had very minor corrections to be made on tightening straps for their children
• 34 vehicles had many infractions that resulted in a total of 42 tickets being issued
Members ensured that all car seats checked were correctly installed and compliant with the safety regulations prior to leaving the check stop location.
Having a child car seat not properly install could lead to a potential injury or even death in a collision.

All sessions are held at the Redpoll Centre, located in Shell Place MacDonald Island Park – West Entrance, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
