Wood Buffalo RCMP: Highway 63 Road Closure – Update 2

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On May 23, 2019 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP with assistance of emergency services responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 63 at the Albian Sands (CNRL) turn-off. A truck was travelling northbound in the southbound lane when it collided into a semi-tractor head on.

The lone occupants of each vehicle, a 56 year-old male from Prince Edward Island and a 40 year-old male from Nova Scotia were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Traffic was diverted around the area for several hours while Wood Buffalo RCMP and a RCMP Collision Analyst investigated.

The names of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.

Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased during this time.

Fort McMurray, Alta. – Highway 63 at the turn-off to Albian Sands has been closed due to a collision involving a semi-truck and pick-up truck and will remain closed until further notice.

Wood Buffalo RCMP along with Fire and EMS are currently on scene, the investigation is ongoing and it is expected to take several hours.

No further information is available at this time. An update will be sent when available.
