Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision

Janvier, Alberta
– On July 6, 2018 shortly before 6:00 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle rollover collision on Highway 881 near kilometre marker 215. The location of the collision is approximately 2 kilometres north of the Janvier turnoff, on the Fort McMurray side.

Tragically the adult male driver of the vehicle is deceased. Police are respectfully notifying the next of kin.

There were two adult female passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Hero and Phoenix Heli-Flight were the two helicopters that assisted in transporting the female passengers to the hospital this evening. The extent of injuries to the female passengers is unknown at this time.

Both directions of travel on Highway 881 are affected. People who are travelling are asked to be patient while emergency crews are on scene. Emergency crews are starting to let traffic pass. Please travel safely and follow the directions of emergency personnel.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Emergency Services Fire and Ambulance, Integrated Road Safety Unit, and Wood Buffalo RCMP are assisting with this collision. An RCMP traffic analyst from the Integrated Road Safety Unit is also on scene.

The investigation continues and an update will be provided when available.
