Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigate Suspicious Vehicle Fire

Fort McMurray, Alberta – On June 15, 2018, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Wood Buffalo RCMP and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire near Johnson Bay and Dominion Drive, in the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray, Alberta.  Police can confirm the suspect approached the area from Millenium Drive. The vehicle was a Ford F150, and the window was broken by an unknown male suspect. He threw an object in the vehicle and lit it on fire. The suspect fled from the area, back towards Millenium Drive.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are seeking assistance from the public for any information or video surveillance footage they may have in relation to this fire; such as people and vehicles in the area from 2:20 a.m until 3:15 a.m. on June 15, 2018.

The preliminary stages of the investigation suggest the fire was intentionally caused and it is still under investigation. The vehicle was unoccupied, and no injuries have been reported to police. A nearby home sustained some damage to the siding of the house.
