Fort McMurray, Alberta: On June 23rd 2018, Wood Buffalo RCMP started using the Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System (AFRRCS), a two-way encrypted radio network for first responders across the province. This radio system is completely secure and communications can not be captured via use of radio scanners.

AFRRCS offers integrated communication for all officers within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). Police officers of Wood Buffalo RCMP are now sending and receiving clear communication without distortion. Communications are all on a single channel, which increases officer awareness and information sharing.

AFRRCS system is contributing to officer safety and enhances police response.
