Wood Buffalo RCMP lay charges against local hockey coach

Fort McMurray, Alberta – A 31-year-old male is facing numerous charges after Wood Buffalo RCMP began an investigation into allegations of sexual offences that were reported to police.

Steven Charles Adams (31) of Fort McMurray has been charged with the following offences:
– Luring a child contrary to s.172.1(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
– Sexual assault contrary to s.271 of the Criminal Code
– Sexual exploitation contrary to s.153(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Adams has been released on bail and is due in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on January 9, 2019.

These serious charges stem from allegations of misconduct while Adams was a volunteer hockey coach with Fort McMurray Minor Hockey in 2018.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP take allegations of this nature seriously and continue to make this file an investigative priority. Necessary victim support services have been made available to those affected by this investigation.
