Wood Buffalo RCMP reports Fake RCMP Facebook Account

Fort McMurray, Alberta – RCMP are warning residents to be cautious of internet scams.  On November 29th, 2017 the Wood Buffalo RCMP received several reports of a concerning Facebook account, falsely representing the RCMP. This scam involves one or several persons who sent out messages representing the RCMP. The Wood Buffalo RCMP would like to reassure citizens that these are false messages, and are not associated to the RCMP.

When the Wood Buffalo RCMP need to send a message to the public, we will send out a media release. To view our media releases, please go to www.woodbuffalorcmp.ca.

Please do not contact the user of Facebook page, “Fort McMurray RCMP” and put yourself at risk. If you receive a response or contact from this false Facebook account, do not pursue messaging with this account.

To file a police complaint regarding internet scams or any other fraudulent scams, please contact your local RCMP office. You can also contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501 to file a report.
