Wood Buffalo RCMP: suspicious person investigation leads to charges

Fort McMurray, Alberta: On October 21st, 2018 at approximately 6:30 p.m., police responded to a suspicious person incident. A male was seen going through resident’s yard near the intersection of Huggard Street and Hugues Avenue in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect male entered a residence nearby, stole a Crossbow and shot at a resident. No injuries were sustained. It is believed the suspect male arrived in a stolen vehicle which subsequently caught fire.

Stolen property was recovered by police incidental to the male’s arrest.

Alstair James Janvier, a 23-year-old male resident of Chard, Alberta, was arrested and charged with:
• Mischief not exceeding $5000 (x4)
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of property obtained by crime (x2)
• Breaking and entering with intent
• Possession of controlled substance

His next court appearance will be in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on November 7th, 2018.

As this matters is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.
