Wood Buffalo RCMP warn residents of break-ins to vehicles

Fort McMurray, Alberta- On July 6th, 2018 Wood Buffalo RCMP received reports that several vehicles parked near the intersection of Hinge Road and Signal Road were broken into. This year Wood Buffalo RCMP have responded to approximately 85 complaints of break-ins to vehicles. The RCMP would like to use this opportunity to pass along a few tips to help residents avoid becoming victims of theft.

How to protect your vehicle and belongings against theft:

  • Park in a sensible place, avoiding unlit areas at night.
  • Remove the ignition key and activate the steering lock.
  • Lock your doors and close all windows.
  • Hide your valuables out of sight or take them with you.
  • Take extra keys out of your vehicle.

Common items stolen from vehicles:

  • Laptops
  • Radar Detectors
  • Shopping bags
  • Purses
  • Wallets
  • Tools
  • Personal Documents
