Wood Buffalo RCMP warns public of theft of portable nuclear gauge

Fort McMurray, Alberta: On October 12th, 2018, at approximately 2:27 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle near Biggs Avenue and Nixon Street in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The stolen item is described as a portable nuclear gauge. If manipulated, the device could be harmful as it contains radioactive substances.

Police is warning the public to not touch the case or the device if located.

The portable nuclear gauge was stored in it’s transportation case. The case is yellow and identified with a radioactive sign. This tool is used in civil construction to test density and moisture in the ground.

If you have any information regarding the location of the stolen portable nuclear gauge, please DO NOT MANIPULATE and contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040, or your local police immediately.
