Fort McMurray, Alberta – On August 3rd, 2016, shortly after 3:00 pm, the Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a call of a collision that occurred on Highway 63 in the northbound lane just south of the Highway 69 junction. The driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot into the nearby woods. Police dog services attended the scene where they attempted to locate the suspect without success. The driver of the second vehicle was treated on scene with minor injuries.
Shortly before 9:00 pm, the Wood Buffalo RCMP received a call of a suspicious male on Rodeo Drive in Fort McMurray. The male matched the description of the suspect from the earlier collision. Police attended the location and arrested the male.
Mason WATSON (27) of Fort McMurray has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident. WATSON has since been released.
