Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate drowning at Snye river

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On August 23, 2019 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a male drowning at Snye river in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The male had entered the water to assist his friend who had become exhausted trying to swim to shore. The male was successful in saving his friend but drowned himself.

RCMP, Fort McMurray Search and Rescue, as well as Regional Emergency Services conducted a search for the body and it was recovered from the water this afternoon.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time.
