Fort McMurray, Alta. – In response to COVID-19, Wood Buffalo RCMP has created a dedicated “Call Back Unit”. This unit is a specialized service consisting of experienced police officers from our region. The unit has been designed to handle non-emergency calls for service where there is no risk to public safety and the investigation of the file is not time-sensitive. The detachment support staff will be reviewing incoming calls for service and forwarding those determined to be appropriate to the Call Back Unit. This will help to maximize public and police safety.

The following are examples of complaints that MAY be considered for the Call Back Unit.

• Frauds relating to CRA, phone and online scams
• Lost Property
• Thefts
• Mischiefs relating to vandalism, entry to vehicles or damage to mail boxes

“As always, maintaining public safety will be our priority and we will continue to respond in person to complaints that impact public safety,” says Sergeant Sarah Drummond, Acting Operations Support Officer.
