Wood Buffalo RCMP remind residents to secure valuables after an increase in vehicle theft

Fort McMurray, Alta. – With a recent increase in stolen vehicles and theft from vehicles, Wood Buffalo RCMP ask for public assistance in preventing these crimes.

Residents can assist by ensuring vehicles are kept locked while unattended and valuables such as cell phones, wallets, cash, tools, are removed or out of sight. Never keep spare keys or firearms stored in a vehicle, or keep a vehicle running while unattended.

Between May 15, 2019 – July 15, 2019, there has been 59 reported thefts from vehicles and a total of 51 motor vehicle thefts.
